AC Repair & Replacement FAQs
Should I repair or replace my AC?
It depends mostly on the system's age, the size of the repair, and how often it has needed work. A newer system with an isolated failure such as a capacitor or fan motor is usually worth repairing. An older system facing a compressor, coil or repeat refrigerant repair is where many homeowners compare a replacement quote.
How many quotes should I get?
Many homeowners get two or three itemized quotes. Compare equipment model numbers, the matched AHRI rating, what's included (pad, line set, drain, thermostat, permit, haul-away), and the labor warranty, not just the total.
My AC needs Freon every year. Is that normal?
No. The refrigerant system is sealed, so needing more refrigerant means it's leaking. Yearly top-offs treat the symptom, and leaks usually get worse.
My outdoor unit hums but the fan won't spin. What is it?
A failed run capacitor or fan motor is a common cause, but it can also be a contactor or compressor issue. Turn the system off to avoid further damage and request a diagnosis.
Can I get same-day AC repair?
Many local contractors offer same-day or next-day service, but availability depends on demand. In heat waves, schedules fill quickly. We can't promise arrival times, but we route urgent requests promptly.
Are mini-splits good for Texas garages and shops?
They're a popular choice for garages, workshops and detached spaces because they cool and heat without ductwork. Insulation matters a lot. A hot, uninsulated garage needs more capacity.
Why is one room always hot?
Common causes include a crushed or disconnected duct, an undersized duct run, a missing return path, or a room with heavy sun exposure. A contractor can measure airflow to find the cause.
